I am using a Logitech Harmony remote with the Hauppauge IR receiver/blaster and that combo works fine. The remote control is really cheap looking, and only has a range of a few feet. Newegg's description says the component to S-video adapter is included, but that isn't true. But if I did it again, I would get the non-IR version, and a separate USB MCE remote/blaster. After a lot of work, i was able to get the IR to work. I missed the other Newegg reviews that reported IR support was broken in recent Linux kernels. Receives good digital Cable signal behind 3 layers of splitters.Ĭons: I got this version of the card (with remote) because the MythTV wiki said its IR function was supported. Pros: Analog and digital TV functions work out-of-the box with Mythbuntu 0.23/Ubuntu 10.04. But it is OK with me, I just want to watch football in HD on my PC. Unfortunately, QAM channels are few, limited by the cable company. Wall cable channels show up as HD 2.1, 4.1, 5.1 etc. My cable set top box comes through with analog channel numbers 2, 3, 4, etc. Windows 7 media center picks up and controls both. I connected cable from the wall to the QAM connector and my cable set top box to the analog connector. Let me be clear despite all the information to the contrary all over the internet, as well as information Hauppauge tech support told me when I called before I purchased this card, I WAS ABLE to set up this card up as a dual tuner in windows 7 media center, controlling both the standard clear QAM tuner AND the cable set top box with both connections used on the card.

My configuration 3 year old dell E521 2Ghz Athlon dual core, 4 gigs memory, 256 MB video card, 64 bit windows 7. Overall Review: I had to write this review to clear up some confusion regarding this card. Better analog quality than my old Hauppauge PVR-150. Pros: Easy set up, picks up both wall cable clear QAM and set top box analog channels in windows 7 media center. I'll look into upgrading my cable to digital soon so I can get ALL of the digital channels.

Overall Review: For the money, this is an excellent card for those looking to get digital channels.

Some might find the remote a pro since it allows you to control your satellite or cable box if the box is required. For me, this is not a problem as I have an MCE remote from my older tuner card, so it's not a "con" for me, but some might think the remote works with MCE when it doesn't, so you have been forewarned. It does NOT work with MCE, but instead it is used to control your satellite or cable box.

Really nice.įor recording, there is an MPEG-2 decoder built in, so hardware decoding is built-in, thereby reducing the load on the CPU.Ĭons: Even though the card works perfectly, the only problem some might find is the remote. Very nice.įor capturing video, there is an S-video port, but they also provide an adapter so you can hook up an RCA jack if your source doesn't have S-video out ports.

I didn't have to use a CD to install the drivers as Windows 7 found them. Under Windows 7, it installed perfectly without any problems.
